KUALA LUMPUR – The special Senate meeting scheduled for August 3 to 5 will focus on the explanation and tabling of the emergency proclamation, and not any “unexpected” motions.
Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim in a statement today said other issues, questions or the right to an explanation submitted by senators will be considered based on relevance.
“Matters that have been slated for the meeting are the emergency proclamation, emergency ordinances under the proclamation in accordance with Article 150 (3) of the federal constitution, and tabling of the emergency proclamation (on the Gerik and Bugaya by-elections in Perak and Sabah, respectively).
“Other matters are, explanations from ministers under the Senate’s Standing Order 13(1)(i) relating to the National Recovery Plan, the vaccination programme, the implementation of the emergency, and economic stimulus packages.”
He said he was notified by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as leader of the House, that the special session is vital as it is of public interest.
Dewan Negara secretary Muhd Sujairi Abdullah will notify all members of the meeting soon. – Bernama, July 19, 2021
