KUALA LUMPUR – Thirty non-citizens and a local woman have been arrested for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures by attending a feast in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha at a house in Taman Selayang Utama, Batu Caves, today.
Gombak police chief Zainal Mohamed Mohamed in a statement said the 29 men and two women, aged 20 to 40, were apprehended in a raid about 10am after police received a public tip-off.
“Of the 30 non-citizens, four had valid travel documents, while six had expired temporary employment visitor passes. The other 20 did not have valid travel documents.
“They were found to not be in compliance with the SOPs by gathering and failing to observe physical distancing, besides possessing expired passes and not having valid travel documents.”
All of the suspects were taken to the Gombak district police headquarters, he said, adding that the non-citizens will be brought to the Selayang magistrates’ court for a remand application tomorrow.
Investigations are being conducted under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not having a valid pass or permit to stay in Malaysia, and Section 15(1)(c) of the same act for overstaying.
The Malaysian woman was fined RM4,000 under Regulation 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2021.
“Investigations are also being conducted under Section 269 of the Penal Code for a negligent act that may likely spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life,” said Zainal Mohamed. – Bernama, July 20, 2021
