KUALA LUMPUR – The Federal Territories Ministry will provide four free low-risk Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres just for Kuala Lumpur City Hall People’s Housing Project (PPR) and Public Housing (PA) residents who have contracted Covid-19.
Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the four private centres are at the Royal Chulan hotel, International Youth Centre, Tamu Hotel & Suites, and Travelodge City Centre hotel.
These centres are for Categories 1 and 2 patients to undergo self-quarantine and avoid a further hike in cases due to close contact among family members, he added.
“Currently, those tested positive but asymptomatic (Category 1) or with mild symptoms (Category 2) are required to undergo self-quarantine at home.
“However, we find that most of them live in cramped and crowded houses, especially B40 families in DBKL PPR and PA, which are not conducive for the purpose.”
Annuar said the initiative was taken following discussions between the ministry and relevant agencies, which decided to relocate and place positive patients in hotels designated as Covid-19 centres.
He said the operation aims to take in about 1,000 patients from today with the help of Covid-19 Assessment Centres, the Kuala Lumpur Health Department and related government agencies and departments.
