KUALA LUMPUR – The health order on the various iterations of the movement control order (MCO) has been extended from August 2 to year-end.
According to a federal government gazette signed by Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba on July 21, the order was extended from April 1 to August 1, before yet another extension from August 2 to December 31.
“The operation of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) Order 2020 (P.U. (A) 87/2020), which had been extended for the period from April 1, 2021 to August 1, 2021 by the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Declaration of Infected Local Areas) (Extension of Operation) Order 2021 (P.U. (A) 148/2021), is further extended for a period from August 2, 2021 to December 31, 2021.
“This order comes into operation on August 2, 2021.”
With the extension, the government is able to implement the MCO to stem Covid-19 should the need arise.
Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has announced the four-phase National Recovery Plan (NRP) that involves transitions in the movement controls imposed to contain the pandemic.
NRP is based on data and three key thresholds: community spread based on daily cases, intensive care unit bed capacity, and the percentage of the population that has been fully vaccinated.
In yesterday’s special Dewan Rakyat meet, Muhyiddin said most states will transition to Phase 4 as early as October. – The Vibes, July 27, 2021
