KUALA LUMPUR – It was a ride to remember for commuters when Kelana Jaya LRT train doors open when it was moving yesterday afternoon.
The incident happened yesterday at 3.01pm, and doors to the train remained open after departing the Damansara LRT station heading towards the Lembah Subang station.
Rapid KL said in a statement today that its operations control centre realised the issue and took the train out of service less than two minutes later when it reached the Lembah Subang station.
The operator also issued an apology to the affected commuters.
The train has been taken out of service and sent to a depot for inspection.
“Rapid KL takes this incident very seriously and a detailed investigation is taking place to identify the cause. Appropriate mitigation plans will be implemented to avoid future occurrence,” the operator said in a statement.
Twitter user @perksofbeingsxf who was on the train shared a video of her experience, showing the train travelling at normal speed with the doors open.
“And suddenly I feel like I’m in Divergent @MyRapidKL what is this behaviour,” the netizen said, referring to a scene in the 2014 film, which saw protagonists jumping out of a moving train.

As of today, her post has been retweeted 15,400 times and received more than 200 comments.
A few commenters took the opportunity to point out that the situation could have been much worse, given there may be people who lean on the doors.

Meanwhile, one netizen in a humorous attempt, suggested the trains are merely reacting to Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman’s sacking as Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman.
“That’s why, who asked for Tajuddin to get fired? Prasarana’s assets are rebelling,” @pringlespizie quipped.
Other netizens, also making attempts at comedy, suggested that perhaps Prasarana was merely providing better air ventilation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“They are ventilating for the Delta variant. Delta spreads via the air, so when windows can’t open, doors must be open for ventilation,” @AlongOfficial said.
