Maqis seizes almost RM300,000 frozen beef from Australia

SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (Maqis) seized frozen beef worth RM296,998.91 from Australia in a container at West Port in Port Klang near here last Monday.

Selangor Maqis in a statement today said the seizure was made when its officials stopped the container during a routine check and found that it contained 24,987.96kg of frozen meat, but without a valid import permit.

The case is investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728), which is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to six years, or both, upon conviction. – Bernama, July 28, 2021
