KUALA LUMPUR – Graphic designer and activist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin came out unfazed after being summoned to the Sentul district police headquarters over an artwork by him allegedly linked to PAS.
In a tweet this afternoon, Fahmi said he would not stop working on his art no matter how many times he is quizzed by police.
“Police told me the report was lodged by a PAS member. I will not stop, no matter how many times you want to lodge a report or investigate me.
“To the police force, I’ll see you next month. As usual, pape roger (just roger me),” he said after he had his statement taken at noon today.
Fahmi’s satirical work was posted on June 2 featuring two green beverage cans.
His lawyer Rajsurian Pillai said the case is being investigated for defamation under Section 500 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, Fahmi could face imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or a fine, or both.
“It was a very short session. It started at 12pm and ended at 12.26pm.
“Fahmi said that police have conducted seven investigations against him this year alone in seven months. It is an average of once a month,” Rajsurian told The Vibes in a WhatsApp conversation today.
However, Rajsurian said the graphic artist has refused to comment on the matter as he does not want to make the investigation a big issue.
“Fahmi doesn’t want to comment much or make today’s (investigation) a big issue. There are other ongoing events in Malaysia that should be covered.
“The investigation has nothing to do with intimidation by authorities. It’s a report by PAS.
“Police are just doing their job and the police officer investigating the case was very professional,” he said. – The Vibes, July 28, 2021
