KUALA LUMPUR – Umno has expressed its disappointment with the Perikatan Nasional administration-led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for disobeying the call by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to bring up and debate the emergency ordinances in line with Article 150 (3) of the Federal Constitution.
In a statement today, party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it was more disappointing that the king had to reveal that the cancellation of the Emergency Ordinances which confused the Dewan Rakyat as announced by the law minister on Monday was done without His Majesty’s approval.
“Such actions is clearly a form of betrayal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and also turning their backs against the principles contained in the Federal Constitution
“In relation to this, Umno will request Muhyiddin and Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan to resign from their posts honourably.
“Umno MPs must express and execute the decision by the party’s supreme council on July 7 to revoke their support for Muhyiddin as Prime Minister,” he said.
The Bagan Datuk MP said the decision is in line with their oath as Member of Parliament to be loyal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and to protect, preserve and defend the Federal Constitution at all times.
“The stand is also in line with the basis and objectives of Umno’s formation to always preserve the royal institution as contained in the party’s constitution,” he added.– The Vibes, July 29, 2021
