KUALA LUMPUR – Often accused of being anti-Malay rulers by PAS leaders, DAP trained its guns back at the Islamist party for disrespecting the king after its minister announced the revocation of emergency ordinances without royal assent.
DAP Youth chief Howard Lee said that unlike the unproven claims levelled at his party, the disobedience committed by PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government against the royals is clear and documented.
This, he said, is in relation to the announcement to revoke the ordinances made by the law minister in Dewan Rakyat last Monday, as well as the government’s insistence not to debate the legislations in Parliament.
It is with these in mind, and in particular the disregard towards parliamentary democracy, that DAP has been lodging a series of police reports against the government, via the state chapters of its youth wing.
“The fraudulence given to DAP based on sentimental and baseless accusations, that we are anti-Malay rulers, have never been substantiated. No one has ever been able to show even a thread of evidence of that,” he told The Vibes yesterday.
“But the police reports we lodged are based on audibly and visually recorded evidence broadcast live on national television and in Parliament.
“For those who want to continue to play with that false notion of DAP being everything they (the government) are now doing in the open, do it at your own peril. But I think those with eyes can see the extent at what those in power are willing to do to stay in power.
“And of course, what has been proven today is that PAS is the one that has done everything it accused DAP of doing. I think PAS needs to be able to answer to the country.”

Yesterday, Perak DAP Youth lodged a police report against Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Takiyuddin for going against the spirit of parliamentary democracy, in relation to the retroactive revocation of the ordinances.
According to Lee, similar reports have also been lodged in Sabah and Penang, while more is expected to be made in the coming days.
Takiyuddin, who is PAS’ Kota Baru MP, had announced in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday that the revocation took effect from July 21, triggering lawmakers to accuse the government of superseding the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
His Majesty issued a statement yesterday rebuking the government, and in particular Takiyuddin, for revoking the ordinances without his consent, while the Prime Minister’s Office responded saying the king has been duly advised on the matter.
With Takiyuddin and the government’s decision to disregard the monarch, Lee said PAS now owes the rakyat an explanation.
He said this is especially as the PAS lawmaker’s action contradicts what the party claims to stand for – the rule of law, the furthering of democracy, and acting for the betterment of the country.
“It is clear now what it actually stands for is nothing but its own hold of power. I think this is absolutely disgusting and disgraceful,” he said.
On DAP Youth’s position on the current political crisis, Lee said what transpired over the last few days has been a flagrant and grave abuse of democracy and the institution of Parliament.
“More appears to be unfolding, which lends credence to our position that there is abuse of democracy. This is tantamount to treason – a treachery towards the very basis of our nationhood, which is the federal constitution,” he said. – The Vibes, July 31, 2021
