KUALA LUMPUR – PKR has denied multiple reports claiming its president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong today.
In a brief statement clarifying the matter, party communications director Fahmi Fadzil urged the media to verify information through the right channels before publishing.
“This is fake news.
I seek the cooperation of our media friends to get the correct information from verified sources before publishing an article to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding.”
Earlier today, Astro Awani quoted unnamed sources as saying the opposition leader has been granted an audience with Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today.
It alleged that the meeting would take place at Istana Abdulaziz in Indera Mahkota, Pahang.
The news outlet published another article just an hour later quoting Istana Negara sources as saying the information derived by the media on Anwar having an audience today is false.
Malaysiakini similarly quoted multiple PKR sources as saying their president is expected to meet His Majesty at 2.30pm in Pahang – a claim that was disputed by a palace insider.
This comes amid the country’s brewing constitutional crisis after the Perikatan Nasional government on Monday announced the retroactive revocation of all emergency ordinances effective July 21 without having first received the king’s consent.
In a strongly worded statement on Thursday, Istana Negara reprimanded the government for misleading the Dewan Rakyat and acting unconstitutionally.
The Prime Minister’s Office responded by saying the Agong had already been duly advised on the government’s decision to revoke the ordinances, and as such, the matter need not be debated in Parliament.
His Majesty has, on several occasions, said he wants the emergency proclamation and ordinances to be tabled and debated in the House. – The Vibes, July 31, 2021
