[UPDATED] Takiyuddin to be discharged from hospital after heart procedure

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has been hospitalised since Friday after experiencing a heart problem.

Utusan Malaysia quoted an unnamed source as saying that the PAS lawmaker was forced to undergo a three-hour heart procedure.

“Takiyuddin underwent an angiogram for three hours, as three of his heart vessels were blocked.

“However, he is in stable condition now and will likely be discharged tomorrow,” he told the Malay daily. 

According to the source, the law minister was admitted to the iHeal Medical Centre in Kuala Lumpur.

The Vibes is attempting to get an official statement from Takiyuddin’s office pertaining to his hospitalisation.

In a Facebook post, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said he had contacted Takiyuddin this morning and was told that the procedure went well.

“He informed me that the doctor had placed stents in the blocked arteries. Alhamdulillah, everything went well and he is expected to be discharged in a day or two,” he said.

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak also expressed his well wishes through Facebook, praying for Takiyuddin’s quick recovery.

Meanwhile, opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wished the minister a swift recover in a tweet.

Takiyuddin’s admission comes less than a week after he announced the government’s decision to revoke the emergency ordinances effective July 21, which was roundly criticised by the opposition as well as the public.

He has been under immense pressure from various quarters to relinquish his post after a royal rebuke on Thursday, with unconfirmed reports claiming Takiyuddin intends to step down but was advised otherwise by the cabinet.

In the statement issued by the Istana Negara, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had reprimanded the government for going against his decree for the ordinances to be tabled and debated in Parliament.

The king said by revoking the ordinances, the government has misled Parliament, adding that its action was against the Rukun Negara.

The Prime Minister’s Office responded by saying that the Agong was duly advised and that the constitution provides that His Majesty act in accordance with the advice of the cabinet. 

With Parliament ordered shut by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin ahead of today’s special sitting, opposition MPs gathered in Kuala Lumpur to protest the decision and urged for his resignation. – The Vibes, August 2, 2021
