KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan has accused Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of lying to and misleading Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah by claiming to still enjoy majority support in the Dewan Rakyat.
In a statement today, the PH presidential council said Muhyiddin’s action is the “highest form of derhaka (treason)”, and he should not be forgiven.
“After the PH leadership made careful calculations with allies from opposition parties and those who do not support Muhyiddin, it turned out that Muhyiddin had not spoken the truth, and misled His Majesty during their audience yesterday.
“It is the highest form of penderhakaan against the head of state, and should not be forgiven.
“This matter can be resolved with a parliamentary sitting with one agenda: to table, debate and decide a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin.”
The joint statement was issued by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.
The council said stern action must be taken over the fraud committed.
It said tabling the no-confidence motion only next month is inappropriate as the issue of support for Muhyiddin and the stability of the Perikatan Nasional government must be decided now.
“As long as it is delayed, the issue of the government’s stability and effectiveness cannot be resolved.
“The Malay rulers’ decree on June 16 stressed the importance of a stable government, which can garner the confidence and support of the people.
“We are compelled to solve this problem now, as the people are stressed due to economic problems and the Covid-19 pandemic, with the number of cases and deaths so high every day.”
It reiterated the opposition bloc’s stand for a special Parliament sitting to be held next Monday to resolve the matter.
“We reiterate our stand, as well as that of all parties in the opposition bloc, including MPs who have withdrawn support for Muhyiddin, and urge for a special Parliament sitting to be held next Monday.
We also urge all civil servants, especially those in enforcement agencies, to continue to act professionally and neutrally, and not in accordance with the ruling pact’s directive to put pressure on or intimidate MPs in the issue of support for Muhyiddin.”
In a live televised address yesterday, the prime minister announced that a vote of confidence to determine his legitimacy will be held in Parliament when the House reconvenes next month.
Muhyiddin said he still commands majority support, as only eight MPs have withdrawn their backing. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
