KOTA KINABALU – Sabah may be able to fully immunise 60% of its population as early as September 21 with the current vaccination momentum, said Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Masidi in a statement tonight said the state has the capacity to administer 60,000 doses a day, and is already hitting close to 50,000 a day.

Sabah will be able to hit the 60% target earlier than October if the delivery of the Covid-19 vaccine remains consistent and on time, added the state Covid-19 spokesman.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Md Noor had earlier announced that Sabah may be able to fully vaccinate 60% of its population in October.

On coronavirus cases in the state, Masidi said most are from unknown sources or sporadic infections.

Of the 1,062 new cases today, 251, or 24%, are sporadic and detected in Kota Kinabalu (83), Tawau (37), Tuaran (27), Penampang (27), Sandakan (19) and other districts (58).

Masidi said speeding up the vaccination process is the only way to curb sporadic cases in the state.

“Overall, 54% of the total cases are from close contacts, 11.58% from existing clusters and 6.12% from targeted screening.”

Sabah also recorded nine Covid-19 deaths today. – The Vibes, August 5, 2021
