KOTA KINABALU – The declaration of emergency does not mean curfews or military rule, and those against it prefer a snap election during the pandemic, said Saratok MP Ali Biju of Bersatu.
Using his “engineering logic”, Ali today said the people will not be burdened if an emergency order is called.
“From what I have been made to understand, the purported emergency order does not entail military rule, curfews or restrictions on economic activities. So, the Rakyat is not going to be burdened at all and it will be business as usual for the bosses and captains of industries.
“Only The Dewan Rakyat will be suspended, political activities limited, and wannabe superheroes cannot spook anyone with their strong, convincing, and formidable superpowers. So, what is the problem for the rakyat or the economy?
“My engineering logic tells me that disagreeing with an emergency order means agreeing to an election during a raging pandemic. Let us all be rational and reasonable people.
“I, for one, call for less politicking, instead working together to stabilise the government, fight Covid-19 and restore our economy.”
On a recent statement by former attorney-general Tommy Thomas, Ali said: “As a layman, my understanding of what he says is that declaring emergency goes against the constitution. But emergency orders are provided for in the Constitution.
“I am almost certain there are merits to his arguments that delved into the subtleties of the law and the complexities of interpreting the constitution but legalese is not what is going to cure Covid-19, heal the economy, lower the political temperature or stabilise the nation.”
Ali said Malaysia needs a strong plan to keep everyone safe and healthy, and an economic driven strategy to keep local industries and businesses running smoothly. – The Vibes, October 25, 2020
