KEPALA BATAS – A man impersonated a cop and drove off with a Honda Civic 1.8 patrol car last night before getting caught in Shah Alam hours later.

The man in his 30s also brought along a woman companion on his joy ride through Kedah, Perak and Selangor.

The couple was intercepted at a traffic light junction in Section 9, Shah Alam some four hours later.

The incident left the police red-faced as the male suspect had bypassed conditional movement control order measures.

Police had launched a manhunt for the duo immediately after the 9.40pm incident last night.

The couple’s joy ride ended when the car ran out of petrol.

District police chief ACP Noorzainy Mohd Noor said suspects were taken to the Shah Alam police headquarters for investigations.

It was believed that the man entered the Seberang Prai police headquarters on a motorcycle. When he left with the stolen car, he told the police at the guard post that he was taking it out for an inspection.

Police managed to track down the car through an electronic sensor tracker.
