KUALA LUMPUR – Police have recorded a statement from renowned Muslim preacher Ebit Lew in relation to a sexual harassment case.
In a statement, Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said Ebit was called in to assist with the probe under Section 9 of the Penal Code, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 at Bukit Aman this afternoon.
“The investigation will proceed until police are satisfied with the case to be referred to the attorney-general’s department for advice and further action.
“PDRM has urged all parties to not make any speculation and provocation to ensure this case can be investigated transparently.”
He also urged the public not to spread any material that could compromise police investigations.
Yesterday, it was reported that a well-known preacher was to be called to Bukit Aman today to give his statement relating to allegations of sexual harassment.
According to a report by The Vibes’ sister portal Getaran quoting a source, the preacher, in his 30s, would give his statement today.
The source, however, was unable to confirm whether the preacher would be present or not.
“Investigations are being conducted by Bukit Aman’s Sexual, Women and Child Investigations Division,” the source added.
It is learnt that the probe is related to a video showing a man said to resemble the well-known preacher, which has been widely circulating on social media. – The Vibes, August 19, 2021
