KUANTAN – Reviving the country from the scourge of Covid-19 will be an arduous task for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who was appointed the ninth prime minister yesterday.
In this regard, the son of the Umno vice-president, Nashriq Ismail Sabri, 29, hopes the people will give his father the chance to prove his capabilities in steering the nation forward.
“I hope Malaysians will give him a chance in leading the nation and offer kind prayers. It is not an easy task to take on but we are confident he will try his best to rehabilitate our country,” he said.
The third of four siblings said, given his father’s vast experience, the new responsibilities as prime minister will be implemented well.
On his father’s reaction to the new appointment, Nashriq said: “He was grateful to Allah and thankful to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for appointing him as prime minister.”
Nashriq also said his father, who is also Bera MP, is a loving person who is close to his family, despite being busy with his duties in the government as well as in Umno.
Yesterday, Ismail Sabri’s appointment as the ninth prime minister was announced through a statement issued by Istana Negara. His is due to be sworn in at 2.30pm today.
Ismail Sabri, 61, who was previously the deputy prime minister, was appointed to the post after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced his resignation as prime minister last Monday, following the loss of majority support of MPs. – Bernama, August 21, 2021
