KUALA LUMPUR – Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has called on Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to step down, moments after the Yang di-Pertuan Agong announced that there is no need for an emergency declaration.
The king, in a statement issued by Istana Negara, told politicians to stop all politicking that could affect the government’s stability.
Mohamad, in a brief statement that was taken down shortly after it was posted on Facebook, said lawmakers should be given a chance to form a new administration.
“We call on Muhyiddin to respectfully resign from his position.
“MPs from the various parties will look for the best solution to form a government and save the country and rakyat.”
The palace said the king believes there is no need for an emergency to be declared, whether for the whole or parts of Malaysia, to tackle Covid-19.
Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah trusts that the government is capable of handling the health crisis, it said.
In a later statement, Mohamad said Amanah is confident that the Agong’s decision today was made with much wisdom and thought, taking into consideration the interests of the country and all Malaysians.
