KOTA BARU – Sending patients who have recovered from the coronavirus at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRCs) back home is not the responsibility of the Health Ministry (MoH), said Kelantan Heatlh Department director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.
He, however, said the department will still assist the patient by providing ambulance services with the cooperation of other agencies.
“The task of sending patients back to their homes is not the responsibility of the MoH, but it is an initiative we provide at the PKRC with the cooperation of other agencies, like the district office, for ambulance services.
“It is not our job since they have recovered but we are still taking the responsibility to ease their movements,” he said after visiting the Gelanggang Seni PKRC today.
Dr Zaini was commenting on a video that had gone viral on social media after a women expressed her anger and being told she had to make her way home from a PKRC here on her own.
In the clip, the woman said it was MoH’s responsibility to send patients home from PKRCs.
He said patients are allowed to return home from PKRCs when they are free from the virus, and can also do so using public transport such taxis and e-hailing services.
“True, we hope to provide the privilege but the people must also know that health workers are dealing with thousands of patients.
“Apart from that, we are also facing a shortage of health workers since they are offering their services to the people of Kelantan as well as other states,” he said. – Bernama, August 24, 2021
