KENINGAU – Two teenagers were among five detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) for alleged illegal hunting.

During the 4pm operation codenamed Ops Khazanah, which was jointly conducted by the GOF, Sabah Forestry Department and Sabah Wildlife Department at Mile 38, Nabawan, near the border of Ulu Pinangah Forest Reserve yesterday, authorities also seized a home-made gun also known as bakakok.

Sabah GOF brigade commander Mohd Abduh Ismail said the five suspects aged 13 to 44 were arrested in a four-wheel drive.

The bakakuk, found with 17 bullets, is believed to have been used for illegal hunting.

“Among the suspects who were detained were two teenagers aged 13 and 16, believed to have been hunting illegally around the forest reserve.

“The value of the seized bakakok and vehicle were estimated at RM47,170,” he told The Vibes today.

Abduh said all suspects and confiscated items have been brought to the Keningau district police headquarters and the case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of Arms Act 1960. – The Vibes, August 28, 2021
