KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has urged Malaysians to immediately get vaccinated against Covid-19 as part of the country’s efforts to recover from the ravages of the pandemic.

During his address to the nation on the eve of Merdeka Day this evening, Ismail Sabri said that the vaccines have a proven positive impact against the virus.

“In conjunction with this Merdeka Day, we must continue to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic as our prime enemy,” he said.

“The success (of the battle) will allow us to pave the way for the country’s economic recovery under this new norm. The economy should be restored, the well-being of the people should be improved, and investor confidence should also return.”

Ismail Sabri said this during a televised speech this evening, his first National Day address as prime minister.

The Bera MP said that the war against the pandemic will result in victory if all quarters cooperate based on data and facts.

“On this auspicious date, let us pledge to together restore our nation, which was built transcending religious, racial, and ethnic boundaries,” he said.

“We want to have the spirit of togetherness shown by (former leaders) Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, Tun Hussein Onn, Tun Ismail Rahman, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun H.S. Lee and Tun V.T. Sambanthan.”

Hailing all members of “Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family)” – a formal concept he recently introduced to encourage cohesion upon his swearing-in as premier – he extended his highest appreciation to past and late leaders who had made immense contributions to the country.

“I sincerely hope that as a result of cooperation among all of us, this year will be the last we celebrate Merdeka at war against the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

“Let us free our country from this pandemic, and from economic turmoil and political instability.” – The Vibes, August 30, 2021
