KUALA LUMPUR – Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub’s parliamentary motion to unseat Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun has been rejected.
This comes after Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil revealed on Twitter yesterday that his own application was rejected by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon.
Today, Fahmi revealed the same happened to Salahuddin, although it appears that the latter may have complied with the necessary Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
Fahmi explained that his own motion was rejected as it was “not preceded by a notifier under Standing Order 27”.
“However, when Salahuddin filed a similar motion under Standing Order 27, Rashid said it was not accurate.
“So, which one is it? Good game and well played,” Fahmi tweeted.

Yesterday, Fahmi uploaded a letter by Rashid rejecting the former’s application to oust Azhar following Standing Order 4(3).
Rashid said that the application was rejected because Standing Order 4(3) was not the appropriate channel and it was not preceded by a notifier under Standing Order 27.
However, Rashid’s letter to Salahuddin shows that the latter did make his motion application pursuant to Standing Order 27.
Nevertheless, Rashid stated it was rejected as it refers to inaccurate rules.
Yesterday, several media outlets reported Azhar’s confirmation that he has received more than a dozen motions seeking his removal as Dewan Rakyat speaker.
However, he chose to recuse himself from making a decision citing conflict of interest.
His statement was in response to a report by Utusan Malaysia that at least 15 motions have been filed by MPs seeking a change in the Dewan Rakyat speaker’s post, all of which were rejected.
The Malay daily quoted a source as claiming that Azhar had rejected the motion from even being debated in the coming sitting, scheduled between September 13 to October 12.
In his statement, Azhar said the report by Utusan Malaysia, which insinuated that he had rejected the motions, is false and malicious and harboured intent to harm his reputation. – The Vibes, September 3, 2021
