SIBU – The Sibu Disaster Management Committee (DMC) will conduct monitoring to detect students who fail to turn up for the four-day National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme for teenagers aged 16 and 17, which starts today.
Division DMC coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee said this is to ascertain the reasons for their absence from the drive, which sees the Pfizer-BioNTech jab administered at three “static” vaccination centres (PPVs), namely Dewan Suarah Sibu, Dewan Serbaguna Sibu Jaya and the Kanowit district office hall.
“We want to know whether they are hesitant about or against receiving the vaccine, or if they face other issues like transportation,” he told reporters at the Dewan Suarah Sibu PPV today.
“Those who are hesitant about or reject the vaccine, including parents, will be given counselling.”
The inoculation programme involves 9,289 students aged 16 and 17 from 33 secondary schools in Sibu, as well as children aged 12 to 15 with comorbidities.
Those aged 16 and 17 who are no longer in school can also get vaccinated at the three PPVs.
