GEORGE TOWN – Police recorded DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s statement on Saturday as part of their probe into his alleged violation of self-quarantine and Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

Penang top cop Datuk Mohd Suhaily Mohd Zain said the investigation is ongoing under a police inquiry paper to identify whether SOP breaches really did occur.

“So far, we have recorded the testimonies of 10 individuals, the others being a state assembly secretary, two state Health Department officers, and six people who lodged reports,” he told a press conference today.

Last week, Gerakan Youth and Penang MCA lodged a police report against Lim for allegedly violating self-quarantine by attending the state assembly sitting on September 2.

Lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, acting for Lim, had told the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court that his client must observe self-quarantine from September 1 to 10.

Lim faces four corruption charges linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project.

The Air Puteh assemblyman has denied violating the SOPs, saying he was only informed on September 2, after attending the state assembly session, that he was possibly in close contact with a Covid-19 patient the day before. – The Vibes, September 14, 2021
