KOTA KINABALU – Sabah Star has pledged to work with any political party for the state’s stability and unity.

Its president Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan expressed hope that all Sabah parties will one day unify as a single front, like Gabungan Parti Sarawak.

“This way, Sabah can be strong. I think this is ideal, and one day, we can be like that.

“We are open to any political parties, as we have been all this while. We are open to suggestions,” he said during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Sabah Star cooperative (Kopstar) and Trucknet Machinery Sdn Bhd at the party’s headquarters today.

He said such a show of unity was demonstrated in the Sabah assembly recently, when all assemblymen unanimously rejected the Territorial Sea Act 2012, which sees the waters of both Sabah and Sarawak reduced to just three nautical miles from shore.

In April, Jeffrey said the act is unconstitutional.

The signing of the MoU will enable the purchase of lightweight lorries by Kopstar members at a discounted price.

The vehicles, to be used by local farmers, will be 20% cheaper than the market price.

Kopstar members will also be able to obtain financing to purchase the lorries, said Jeffrey.

“The lorries can be used by farmers to transport their agricultural products. The carriage can also open up to be used as a vending stall.”

Some 700 lorries are expected to be ordered following the first round of requests from cooperative members, he said, adding that about 400,000 people are expected to sign up with Kopstar.

Meanwhile, Kopstar chief executive Datuk Iskandar Abdul Malik said Sabah Star members will be offered a microcredit scheme of up to RM2,000 if they wish to venture into the agriculture business. – The Vibes, September 24, 2021
