KUALA LUMPUR – A total of 209 learning institutions in Kuching, Sarawak, which has been confirmed as a Covid-19 red zone by the Health Ministry, will be closed from tomorrow until November 13.

The Education Ministry, in a statement, said they include primary and secondary schools under the ministry, teacher education institutions, matriculation colleges and private schools that are registered with the ministry.

“Schools and learning institutions that have hostels are also closed. Parents or guardians are required to pick up the students at the hostels and bring them home.

“However, students who wish to remain at the hostels will be under the care of the wardens, with their food and drinks provided by the school or institution concerned,” it said.

The Education Ministry said for students who need to sit for scheduled international examinations during this time, must obtain a letter from their schools to attend the examinations.

“Administrators of the affected schools and learning institutions are required to ensure that teachers and students continue with their teaching and learning process at home.

“The home teaching and learning manual can be downloaded from www.moe.gov.my,” it said.

The ministry said this directive also applies to Labuan.

This followed the extension of the conditional movement control order in Labuan from October 31 to November 13. – Bernama, October 29, 2020
