KOTA KINABALU – There are a lot more assemblymen who want to leave Warisan for Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), said Klias rep Datuk Isnin Aliasnih.
“Actually, there are a lot (of assemblymen who want to quit Warisan). A lot of them have contacted us, but they are still afraid. So, I call out to them: come, join us, let us govern Sabah together.”
The state assistant housing and local government minister was responding to queries from the press on the departure of Sindumin rep Datuk Yusof Yacob from the party today.
Isnin, who is from Bersatu, said those who have yet to gather the courage to leave their parties in the opposition may still be overly attached to their leaders, and that these leaders may have given them the assurance that they will soon form the government.
However, he stopped short of giving a figure.
Isnin said Yusof’s move is wise and reasonable, as the latter will be able to better serve his constituents in GRS’ remaining four years in power.
“If an elected representative is from the opposition, I think it’s hard for him to develop his constituency, and hard for him to connect with the state or federal government.
“So, I think Yusof’s move today is a good thing; it is the right move. I ask that others (from opposition parties) join us. Let go of our ego in politics. What’s important now is the rakyat, who have been suffering especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“People living in rural areas, like Sipitang and Klias, need our help. If people come to their elected representatives for help, but their representatives can’t help, what’s the use of having representatives?”
Yusof said his decision to quit Warisan was driven by the difficulties he faced as an opposition rep to resolve issues in his constituency.
He is the second assemblyman to leave the party this year after Sebatik’s Hassan A. Gani Pg Amir, who quit to become an independent on February 25. – The Vibes, October 8, 2021
