KUALA LUMPUR – The Sport Integrity Global Alliance (Siga) has announced that a local website is being made its first permanent media partner from Southeast Asia in a collaboration to usher sports into a new era of integrity.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Siga commended the portal Twentytwo13 as one of the pioneering media organisations committed to working towards the reform of the sports industry and the worldwide implementation of the Siga Universal Standards on Sport Integrity.
It said that it has come to an agreement with the website to extend its existing media partnership made for Sport Integrity Week 2021, making it permanent and part of an ongoing commitment to advancing Siga’s global mission encapsulated by the sport integrity goals.
“Sports- and integrity-related matters – such as racism, women empowerment, corruption, etc – are among the main stories the Twentytwo13 team runs daily,” the statement said.
Siga’s global chief executive Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros emphasised the role of free media and independent journalism towards implementing the highest ethical conduct not only in sport, but in all social sectors.
“The responsibility of checking facts and the power of asking questions are true pillars of democracy,” he said.
“That is why journalists are among the fiercest enemies of all criminal activity. Their role is essential for everyone who wants to live in a fair world, and that is why Siga will always support investigative journalism and independent media organisations.
“We invite all media organisations to support Siga mission and vision of a world free of criminal infiltration in sport.
“Being a permanent Siga media partner is, at this time, a chance to pioneer the most-needed reform in sports,” he said.
The other permanent media partners are UK-based website Inside World Football, International Sports Press Association, and Portugal-based National Club of Sports Press. – The Vibes, October 9, 2021
