KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has asked opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to help provide information on the Pandora Papers exposé.
In a statement yesterday, the anti-graft body said it will work with Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the relevant agencies to investigate.
“As such, MACC is asking Anwar to assist if he has further information on the issue.”
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said police have received four reports on the matter.
The Pandora Papers relate to private documents linked to rich and influential individuals around the world who store their wealth in offshore companies and incognito bank accounts.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government will leave it to the authorities to take action against any party involved.
On Monday, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz reportedly said BNM is ready to cooperate with law enforcement to monitor and investigate documents contained in the Pandora Papers trove that relate to individuals in Malaysia. – Bernama, October 17, 2021
