KUALA LUMPUR – PAS will be amending its constitution in order to establish a Dewan Muslimat Muda Malaysia, said Dewan Muslimat PAS Malaysia (DMPM) chief Senator Nuridah Mohd Salleh.
During the party’s muktamar (conference) this year, Dewan Pemuda PAS Malaysia Kuala Krau delegation had recommended creating a female youth wing in preparation for Undi18, which is expected to be implemented next year.
However, according to a report by the organisation’s organ Harakah, the proposal faced a heated debate in which there was tremendous opposition from the Wilayah Persekutuan and Pahang chapters’ youth wing.
The representative from Dewan Pemuda PAS Wilayah Persekutuan was of the view that a Dewan Muslimat youth wing was not necessary, given there is already the DMPM.
Nevertheless, upon voting, 361 representatives supported the recommendation, while only 177 rejected it.
Later, during a virtual press conference, Nuridah explained that recommendations for a Dewan Muslimat PAS youth wing were not new but it faced rejection seeing that its members were not ready for such a move.
With the recommendation now approved, Nuridah said the next step will be to amend PAS’ party constitution.
Speaking on the Melaka election, Nuridah voiced her hope for more female Muslim representation in the upcoming ballots, given there is a large number of women voters out there especially among the youths.
She said it is important for PAS to include female candidates to woo women voters over.
“Women representation (in the Melaka election), is very much welcome by DMPM,” Nuridah added.
However, she further explained that there are no details regarding the candidates in the upcoming election as discussions are still ongoing between PAS, Umno and Bersatu. – The Vibes, October 31, 2021
