MIRI – Bandar Kuching lawmaker Dr Kelvin Yii revealed today that a national Covid-19 testing policy is in its final stages before it is made public.

Dr Yii, who chaired a parliamentary committee meeting today, said the strategy will be used as guidelines for all industries and sectors before the country moves into the endemic phase.

“We were also briefed on the national testing strategy before it will be released to the public, to be set as a guideline for all industries and sectors as we move into endemicity.

“We had a Parliamentary Select Committee on Health, Science, and Innovation meeting in Parliament with Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, and the health secretary-general to get updates on our current Covid-19 situation and strategies of the government.

“This covers vaccination rollouts – especially the booster or third dose, vaccination for adolescents, and future vaccinations for those aged below 12,” Dr Yii said in a Facebook post today.

He said it was a very “robust” discussion, with three former ministers and a former deputy health minister in the committee.

“The input from all committee members will be taken into account as we prepare the next report.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak today confirmed another 13 deaths and 416 new infections, with 11 patients in intensive care.

Kuching recorded 138 new cases, Miri (55), and other districts with several dozen cases each. The deaths were in Betong (six), Miri (four), Kuching (two), and Sibu (one). – The Vibes, November 9, 2021
