KUALA LUMPUR – One shade of blue is not the same as another.
Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi took a swipe at rival coalition Perikatan Nasional, saying voters should stay away from the “counterfeit” blue on polling day, or there will be damaging results otherwise.
“Ensure it is the original BN (Barisan Nasional) blue, because the original is quality.
“Choosing a political party’s colour blue must be for the obvious long-term and proven (promises).
Rival Pakatan Harapan wasn’t spared either.
He said Melaka folk should not make the mistake of choosing “false hopes” again, a reference to “harapan”.
Zahid in his statement said BN’s 28 candidates are proof that the coalition continues to bring a political narrative that is based on multiracial unity.
He added that Umno candidates, with those from MCA and MIC, are again united to bring the people real hope – a stable economy and prosperity that was snatched in the 2018 general election.
Last Saturday, the BN lynchpin announced that it has the lion’s share of seat allocations in Melaka with 20 candidates, while MCA took seven spots, and MIC was left with one.
Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said five of the 28 candidates are women – four from Umno and one from MCA.
He also confirmed that Melaka BN chairman and Umno strongman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh will be contesting the Tg Bidara seat, while Lendu incumbent Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali remains the “poster boy” to lead the state if he wins.
The latest round of instability had hit Melaka when its former chief minister (CM) Datuk Seri Idris Haron – then Umno – led three other state assemblymen to declare that they no longer support incumbent CM Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.
This led to Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam dissolving the Melaka assembly.
