KUALA LUMPUR – The Election Commission (EC) will be discussing the Sarawak election in a special meeting on November 24.

Commission chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh will be chairing the meeting to determine the dates for the election writ, nomination day, polling day, and voter registration.

“The EC is announcing a special meeting for the state election of Sarawak’s 12th assembly to be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, starting at 9am in Kuching, Sarawak,” said the statement.

It added that a press conference will be held after the discussion.

Governor Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud had officially dissolved the state assembly on November 3, 2021 after receiving consent from Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The dissolution paves way for the 12th state elections to be held within 60 days.

Meanwhile, a federal gazette stated that the revocation of the emergency proclamation by the Agong is in line with Clauses (1) and (3) of Article 150 in the federal constitution.

The EC has been officially informed by Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Abang Johari Openg of the Agong’s consent to prematurely end the emergency proclamation, which was originally set to end in February next year. – The Vibes, November 12, 2021
