MIRI – The race to administer booster shots among Sarawakians against Covid-19 is now picking up its pace, with only weeks left before the 12th state election.
It is learnt that teams from the state Health Department are being deployed into the most remote frontiers of northern and central Sarawak daily.
Health personnel have apparently been working around the clock to inoculate natives in the rural parts of Sarawak from the remote Baram district, all the way to Engkili.
The Sarawak Public Communications Unit, in its latest reports, said many settlements have seen good turnouts.
It said dozens of villagers in each remote longhouse are being vaccinated every day with booster doses.
“The booster dose programme is proceeding smoothly.
“It has covered many villages and longhouses in all the districts,” the unit stated on its social media channels recently.
With a population of three million people, Sarawak has so far recorded about 2.3 million adults who received two doses of Covid-19 vaccines from Pfizer, Sinovac, or AstraZeneca.
It said over 60,000 Sarawakians have already received booster shots as of today.
The Sarawak Health Department is only providing Pfizer booster shots at the moment. However, state authorities have requested for Sinovac booster doses to be included as well.
