KOTA BARU – The Kelantan Veterinary Services Department has launched the E-Ternak system that is expected to benefit over 100,000 breeders in the state.
State Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology, Green Technology, and Environment Committee chairman Tuan Mohd Saripudin Tuan Ismail said the system, which is being used for the first time in the country, is to find out the distribution and status of livestock such as cows and buffaloes.
He said the system would also help veterinary and registration departments to facilitate the process of filing, processing, and extracting data involving livestock.
“This system is like the National Registration Department, but it is specifically for animals, with the aim that we can monitor livestock development, as well as disease control to prevent more severe infections.
“For example, if men are faced with Covid-19, animals have lumpy skin disease and other diseases that require vaccines. Through this system, we can obtain data on any livestock that has been infected so that we can vaccinate them,” he told reporters after launching the E-Ternak system here today.
Elaborating, Tuan Saripudin said data from the system is important as the state government will allocate over RM2 million annually to breeders carrying out the pawah (sharing) system.
“So far, Kelantan has pioneered the pawah livestock system, especially (for) cattle and buffaloes. In fact, with the pawah system in place, there are over 100,000 cattle and buffaloes in Kelantan on average every year.
“If the state government has a bigger allocation in the future, it could produce more breeders in the state,” he said. – Bernama, November 14, 2021
