KOTA KINABALU – Sepanggar’s Warisan MP Datuk Azis Jamman has questioned senior lawmaker Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, asking him to point out which part of his budget speech called for secession from Malaysia.
He said the Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister should listen to his budget debate speech again and point out the specific part.
“My comment was simple. I know he (Ongkili) is not that well. Even in Parliament, it is very difficult for us to understand what he is talking about, which I am also worried about.
“It is best for him to listen to what I was saying in Parliament again...I don’t have to repeat it as my speech is still available on social media, including YouTube,” said Azis in response to Ongkili’s caution against him accusing Putrajaya of colonising Sabah and Sarawak.
In rebutting the Kota Marudu MP, Azis said his debate speech had been clearly misconstrued as accusing the peninsula-based government of colonising Sabah and Sarawak, although he was merely giving a warning to Putrajaya to keep their promise in delivering state rights.
Azis said he had warned Putrajaya not to play down the growing resentment of the people in Sabah and Sarawak over the continuous breaching of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Don’t blame us if the movement to gain independence in Sabah from the colonisation of Putrajaya grows louder. We began at the United Nations and we could end the fight on MA63 at the United Nations.
“If any one of the terms in the agreement has been violated, then the agreement can be broken and if MA63 is null, I wish to remind Putrajaya that there is no Malaysia without Sabah,” he said.
Azis also questioned why Ongkili had singled him out over the controversy, saying that Sabah Star leader Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan had instead clearly pointed out the same growing resentment among Sabahans of Putrajaya.
He said Jeffrey in his budget speech on November 8 claimed that some 60% of East Malaysians are for Sabah and Sarawak leaving Malaysia, as they are disappointed over the unequal treatment given by Putrajaya on development funds. – The Vibes, November 15, 2021
