KUALA LUMPUR – Senator Fadhlina Sidek has been appointed as the deputy chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption.
Senate president Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim in a statement said that the appointment of Fadlina, who is also a legal practitioner, was decided in a committee meeting that was held for the first time today.
“The other three members of the Senate Select Committee are Senator Datuk Jefridin Atan, Senator Datuk Seri S. Vell Paari and Senator Datuk Zaiedi Suhaili,” said Rais, who is also the chairman of the committee.
Rais said the Select Committee on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption is one of the three select committees set up in an effort to transform Parliament.
“As a committee with legislative powers, the Senate Select Committee on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption has the authority to call any party related to an issue on governance, integrity and anti-corruption,” he said.
He added that it is also responsible for scrutinising bills, investigating and reporting any proposals, motions, petitions, reports or documents on issues raised regarding governance, integrity and anti-corruption, and subsequently to be submitted to the Senate.
“Recommendations or suggestions from research, investigation and reports on an issue, after going through all the processes of dealing with stakeholders and after obtaining a public hearing and the views of expert witnesses, will be submitted through the statement of the select committee for follow-up by the authorities.
“For that purpose, the public can submit a petition directly to the Select Committee on Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption on any related issue if they have solid information to channel,” he said.
Apart from that, Rais said that a briefing session on governance, integrity and anti-Corruption for all MPs will be held from time to time. – Bernama, November 16, 2021
