MELAKA – A video of an irate Indian man shooing away MIC members in Melaka has been making its rounds on social media after he was approached outside his house.

The shirtless man could be seen interrupting the campaigners when they tried to speak to a family from outside of their house.

“Get lost. Get lost. What have you done for the Indian community? You are only here when you need votes.

“Last time you said you didn’t win because of votes from Indian voters. So why are you here to beg for our votes? Just leave,” he said as he gestured for the campaigners to leave.

This is in stark contrast to Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) high tea programme in Little India here yesterday.

PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the coalition’s top leaders were well received by local traders and passers-by.

Anwar, who rode to Bandar Hilir in a trishaw, received a warm reception from the local community.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, who was also present to campaign for PH’s Bandar Hilir candidate Leng Chau Yen, was mobbed as residents made requests for photos.

Voters in the state are roughly 60% Malay and 30% Chinese, and the rest are Indians and others.

On October 4, the state assembly was dissolved after four assemblymen withdrew their support for former chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

The Election Commission has fixed November 20 for voting, with early voting last Wednesday. Nominations were held on November 8. – The Vibes, November 19, 2021
