MIRI – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on opposition parties in Sarawak to unite to take on the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
This unity is crucial if they want to make a strong impact in the upcoming 12th state election, he said.
Speaking at the launch of Sarawak PKR’s election machinery in Kuching today, Anwar, who is the party’s president and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) chairman, expressed confidence that the coalition is prepared to face the polls.
“We are fine-tuning seat distribution among PH parties. We are still willing to discuss cooperation with (other opposition bloc) Parti Sarawak Bersatu,” he said.
“We must be united to take on GPS.”
Anwar said he will leave it to Sarawak PH leaders to continue the discussions on this matter.
“They should conclude these soon,” he stressed.
He also said that he is confident the people of Sarawak will vote for change, and urged them to not be induced by money or other enticements that may come their way from the ruling parties.
“We worry about inducements of money, things, and positions,” he added.
In his message to the Sarawak PKR teams, he urged them to go all out to fight for the people.
“Bring justice and equality to the people. Fight to ensure all communities have their rights protected. Their welfare is our top priority,” he said.
Anwar is scheduled to launch the Miri PKR election machinery this afternoon.
The state election is to be held within 60 days from the state assembly’s dissolution that took place on November 3. – The Vibes, November 20, 2021
