KOTA KINABALU – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called on all consumers who are still using their 3G network supporting sim cards to switch to the 4G sim cards before year-end.
In a statement, today, MCMC said the 3G network service will cease on December 31, prompting relevant users to replace their sim cards to avoid further disruptions.
“3G network sim card users are advised to reach out to their respective telco providers and upgrade their sim cards to 4G network to avoid problems,” the commission said, here, today.
The closure of the 3G spectrum, MCMC said, is in line with the government’s move to improve the nationwide bandwidth to a better quality under the Jendela programme.
MCMC said the upgrade will allow it to use the existing spectrum to improve the 4G channel and provide a better experience to customers and households.
“Improvements in data speed, lower latency and stability of the channel can be seen when switching to 4G.
“And as a result, internet users will enjoy better services when surfing the internet, streaming and using other online services,” the commission said.
As of September 20, 90.43% Malaysians are using 4G, with speed up to 31.34 megabytes per second.
Local telco companies such as Celcom, DiGi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia and U Mobile have migrated 1.2 million customers to the 4G network at present. – The Vibes, November 25, 2021
