MIRI – A 4-month old baby boy has been confirmed to have died due to Covid-19 in Bintulu, Sarawak, possibly making the infant the youngest victim of the pandemic in the country.
In a statement today, the State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said that the infant was brought from his home to Bintulu Hospital already dead.
“He was brought dead into Bintulu Hospital on November 17. Tests on his remains today confirmed that he died due to Covid-19.
“The infant did not have any other illness,” the secretariat said in a press statement.
Previously, it was reported in July that the youngest Covid-19 victim was a 38-week-old baby boy who succumbed to the virus in Taman Selaseh, Kuala Lumpur.
Along with the 4-month-old infant, the committee also confirmed five other Covid-19 deaths.
The deceased, all men, were two in Miri aged 76 and 85, one in Samarahan aged 58, one in Bintulu aged 42, and a 23-year-old in Sibu.
Twelve coronavirus patients were admitted into intensive care units today in various hospitals throughout the state.
The secretariat added that there were 171 new positive cases statewide today.
Kuching recorded 66 infections while the remaining districts recorded an average of less than 20 cases each. – The Vibes, November 25, 2021
