[UPDATED] Melaka BN chief Rauf among fresh faces in state exco

MELAKA – Among the new faces in the state exco is Melaka Barisan Nasional chief and Tg Bidara assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof, who has been handed the Industry, Investment and Entrepreneur Development portfolio.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali, meanwhile, holds the Economic Planning, Finance, Land Development, Government Linked Agencies (GLCs) and Religious Affairs portfolio.

He unveiled the appointments after seeking consent from Melaka Governor Tun Mohd Ali Rustam.

Rembia assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis got to keep his previous Tourism, Heritage and Culture portfolio, while Ayer Molek’s Datuk Rahmad Mariman is no longer health exco but now given the Public Works, Transport, Public Facilities, Infrastructure and Flood Management portfolio.

Aside from Rauf, there are seven new faces in the line-up.

Sulaiman was quoted as saying by Bernama that the exco, with Umno, MCA and MIC assemblymen, symbolises unity and cooperation among the races in Melaka.

“This combination of experienced and new people from various backgrounds and professions is the best way to advance and prosper the people in the next five years,” he said in a press conference here today.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place at 3pm in Seri Negeri.

The Melaka state exco line-up is as follows:

– Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali: Economic Planning, Finance, Land Development, Government-Linked Agencies (GLCs) and Religious Affairs

– Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof: Industry, Investment and Entrepreneur Development 

– Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis: Tourism, Heritage and Culture

– Datuk Rahmad Mariman: Public Works, Transport, Public Facilities, Infrastructure and Flood Management 

– Datuk Zaidi Attan: Housing, Local Government and Environment 

– Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman: Agriculture and Agro-based Industry, and Regional and Rural Development

– V. P. Shanmugam: NGO, Youth and Sports

– Datuk Kalsom Nordin: Women Affairs, Family Development and Welfare Affairs

– Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh: Health and Anti-drugs

– Datuk Rais Yasin: Education and Technology

– Ngwe Hee Sem: Unity, Human Resources, Community Relations and Consumer Affairs

The Melaka election that concluded on November 20 saw BN winning 21 of the 28 seats contested. – The Vibes, November 26, 2021
