MIRI – Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDS) is calling for the chief minister post to be reserved exclusively for the Dayaks as the state heads into an election on December 18.
Fighting to secure the chief minister post is one of eight key objectives the party will champion in its manifesto.
Its other aims are to secure for the Dayak community permanent native customary rights land titles, fair education opportunities, key ministerial posts, key positions in government agencies, and to boost their presence in economic and financial sectors.
In addition, the party wants racial and religious freedom, and a just distribution of natural resources and utilities for all.
In the manifesto, it said there are about 1.7 million Dayaks in Sarawak out of the state’s three million population, so the Dayaks deserve the lion’s share of political power, government posts and resources.
PBDS added that the Dayaks are still very much behind others in the state and the country.
Party president Bobby William is contesting in the Senadin seat here, facing incumbent Datuk Lee Kim Shin of the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party.
Bobby’s party is part of the Aspirasi coalition.
The coalition consists of Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party, Sarawak for Sarawakians, Gabungan Anak Sarawak and political independents.
They will contest under the Aspirasi ticket. So far, Aspirasi have identified candidates for about 30 of the 82 constituencies.
Sarawak heads to the polls on December 18, with nomination day falling on December 6 and early voting on December 14. – The Vibes, December 2, 2021
