KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government will be pushing national firm Petronas for more revenue share in the oil and gas sector via commercial cooperation agreement (CCA) that will be inked soon.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said a technical committee set up for the purpose, chaired by Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, will be negotiating the matter with Petronas.

I have personally met with the president/CEO of Petronas to discuss the CCA, which will be inked soon. Through the CCA, Sabah will have greater revenue sharing as well as greater participation and say in our oil and gas matters.”

The CCA is an agreement that has been discussed between the federal government, Sabah government and Petronas.

Hajiji said this at a briefing on the MA63 Special Council for assemblymen at the Sabah Legislative Assembly building here today.

On the proposed bill to amend the federal constitution to be in line with the provisions of MA63, Hajiji said it is the result of the persistence of Sabah and Sarawak.

He said he and his Sarawak counterpart have submitted the states’ demands at the MA63 Special Council, chaired by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

“So, the bill to amend the federal constitution is actually a product of the MA63 Special Council decision that took into account the requests from both Sabah and Sarawak.

The Sabah government sees the formation of the MA63 Special Council as a crucial phase and a manifestation of the government of the day’s readiness to resolve issues that have been agreed before this.”

The special briefing aims to provide an insight into the demands of elected representatives on the latest development of the Sabah and Sarawak governments that have been submitted to the federal government through the MA63 Special Council.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili, Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar (Parliament and Law).

During the briefing, Hajiji also witnessed the handover of power to issue deep-sea fishing licences to the state government from federal Agriculture and Food Industries Minister Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee to Sabah Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Datuk Seri Jeffrey Kitingan. – The Vibes, December 4, 2021
