MIRI – A day ahead of nomination day in Sarawak, a war of words erupted as opposition Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) called Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) a “whimpering little puppy” that is constantly bullied by its big brothers in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
State opposition leader and PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh said SUPP is “powerless and toothless” in the ruling coalition after two SUPP stronghold seats were snatched by GPS lynchpin Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB) and colleague Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
“SUPP’s traditional seat of Mambong was given to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu while the Dudong seat is now contested by Progressive Democratic Party.
“SUPP leaders, including its president (Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian) have expressed shock that its traditional seats were given to other parties to contest.
“Sim said he and his party leaders are not only shocked but also disappointed and angry, but SUPP will move forward as it is a GPS decision.
The SUPP president is reacting with just a whimper, like a little toothless puppy.
“Can the public in Sarawak respect and trust SUPP to fight for them when it dare not even stand up for its own rights in GPS?
“SUPP got bullied by its GPS big brothers and the SUPP leaders merely bow their heads and whimper,” Wong said in a statement today.
Yesterday in a press conference, Sim adopted a conciliatory tone at the end, saying, “Nonetheless, any final decision made by GPS, we in SUPP must support in the interest of the coalition.
“I urge our members in the places where we are not nominated to continue to support GPS.
“We Chinese cannot afford to lose faith in GPS. We need to go all out to help GPS return to serve as the next state government,” he added.
Previously, GPS won 68 of the 82 state seats.
Sarawak heads to the polls on December 18, with nomination day falling on December 6 and early voting on December 14. – The Vibes, December 5, 2021
