KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s borders remain closed to foreigners as part of efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19, according to Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Under this policy, citizens from 23 high-risk countries including Bangladesh could not enter the country except with special permission from the Immigration Department.
"Bangladesh is one of the 23 countries subject to tightened entry requirements because they are categorised as a high-risk country for Covid-19.
"The Immigration Department has yet to change this policy or propose to the government to relax the requirements (for entry of foreign workers),” he said today.
However, Ismail Sabri said the government was prepared to discuss this matter with Bangladesh’s representatives.
Earlier, he said a conditional movement control order (CMCO) will be imposed in Mukim 12 Barat Daya, Penang from November 6-18.
The CMCO was to enable the Ministry of Health (MOH) to conduct targeted screenings in the sub-district.
“As of November 3, there have been 35 positive Covid-19 cases recorded in the sub-district including 11 new ones. After receiving advice from the MOH following the increase in the number of cases in the sub-district, the National Security Council’s (MKN) special meeting decided to implement the CMCO in the area.
"The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the CMCO is still the same as previously announced," he said.
Meanwhile, he added that the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Taman Harmoni People's Housing Project (PPR) in Sandakan, which began on October 23 would end as scheduled tomorrow. – Bernama, November 4, 2020
