JOHOR BARU – Indonesia is expected to send out 5,000 to 10,000 of its citizens next month to work in Malaysia.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said the numbers include workers in the construction and manufacturing sectors as well as domestic workers.
“I have proposed 5,000 to 10,000 at the initial stage after signing a memorandum of understanding between Malaysia and Indonesia. Workers from all other sectors will also be factored in,” he told a press conference after launching the Integrated Centralised Labour Quarters in Pasir Gudang today.
Saravanan added that a special committee under the Manpower Department will be set up in the near future to protect the welfare of Indonesian domestic workers.
“This government initiative arose after discussions were held on the matter. We have agreed to protect the Indonesian domestic workers, so it is our responsibility to set up a committee to fulfil our promise.” – Bernama, December 8, 2021
