KUALA LUMPUR – Some 133 individuals tested positive for Covid-19, sparking an industrial cluster involving a factory in Padang Meha, Kulim.
The Kedah Health Department said in a statement that as of yesterday noon, 194 were tested and 133 have been found positive.
Among the 133 infected, 97 are workers and 36 family members who are close contacts. The infected are from Kulim, Baling, Kuala Muda, and Sik.
The cluster was detected following a screening done by the factory.
The department said the infected are showing mild symptoms and have been fully vaccinated, and currently observing home quarantine.
It added that initial investigations indicated that the infection spread was possibly due to failure to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the workplace, recreational areas and group activities such as futsal.
“Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the cluster. Factory management has been instructed to revise its workplace SOPs in high-risk areas.”
Today, Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced that Malaysia has a daily Covid-19 caseloads of 5,058. – The Vibes, December 10, 2021
