SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government has denied rumours that it will evacuate Indahria Apartment residents, after photos of its damaged pylons were widely shared on social media.
Speaking at a press conference today, Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari dismissed the viral post claiming that the military and the government were looking at evacuating the residents.
“By law, the jurisdiction of Indahria falls under its joint management body (JMB). But we found that the building’s platform requires RM60 to RM70 million to repair.
“We’ve instructed the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) to use its funds and the state government will also assist. By right, it is the developer’s responsibility but it has closed shop and is now gone.
“Obviously, it is impossible for the JMB to raise that amount.”
He added that the Selangor government has been aware of the situation circa 2017/2018.
The state already allocated the funds and was about to cooperate with the Housing and Local Government Ministry to address the building’s problems.
However, the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic and the subsequent movement control orders (MCO) had hampered their plans.
“The local authority was ready to use its funds. The state government and the ministry were ready to render assistance. I think we wanted a 50/50 split on the repair costs.
“But the pandemic happened and under the MCO, we could not call for a tender exercise. The problem is the platform.
“Our current worry is that the platform will drag the building down. But the residents have no other options but to stay there,” said Amirudin. – The Vibes, December 21, 2021
