KUALA LUMPUR – A 23-month-old child was found weak from acute gastroenteritis (AGE) and dehydration in flood-hit Taman Sri Muda yesterday.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the incident had initially started with the child’s elder brother and sister, aged 15 and eight respectively.
Both were vomiting on Tuesday and had been given outpatient treatment.
He tweeted that by 8.30pm yesterday, the youngest of the trio was sent to Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang for further treatment.
“The (child’s) AGE was from food contamination, leading to diarrhoea and dehydration,” he added.
In a statement, he said the child’s father placed an emergency call at 10pm yesterday, and the family was taken to the ministry’s field clinic in Taman Sri Muda at 10.30pm.
“Initially, the child was placed on red triage for dehydration. However, since the primary reading of the overall health level was satisfactory, the child was later given intravenous fluid treatment.
“Because the child showed a positive response and was recovering, he was subsequently admitted to HTAR.
“The ministry would like to assert that there was no delay in the health response related to this issue.”
Earlier, it was reported that a two-year-old was found to be in a weak condition in Taman Sri Muda.
Astro Awani quoted HTAR emergency physician Dr Mohd Akmal Rahim as saying that the child’s condition was likely due to dehydration. – The Vibes, December 23, 2021
